1) Hamilton Chair position at Southern Methodist University, Department of Earth Sciences

Position N. 06029. The Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences at SMU announces a search to fill a named professorship honoring WB Hamilton. We solicit nominations and applications from distinguished earth scientists who maintain vigorous and sustainable research programs and who have a commitment to full participation in the educational mission of the department to provide professional training in a liberal arts environment. As the fourth holder of the chair established in 1921, we seek an individual who can extend existing departmental strengths in earth science. The department’s focus is on pure research to understand Earth history and geologic processes with applied research on problems in the national interest such as climate and environmental change, earthquake seismology including induced seismicity, natural hazards, nuclear test ban monitoring and resources including geothermal energy. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rochester will be hiring a tenure-track faculty in Global Climate Modeling / Earth Systems Modeling / Global Biogeochemical Modeling. The rank of the position is open, with a start date of July 1, 2016. We are interested in a dynamic researcher and educator who can establish an externally funded, internationally recognized research program. 4) Assistant Professor Volcanology – University of Oregon, Dept. of Geological Sciences

The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Oregon invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin in the Fall of 2015 with a focus on volcanic processes. We seek a dynamic scientist who investigates volcanic eruptions through studies of conduit processes, magma fragmentation, plume behavior, and/or the transport and deposition of lava and tephra. We are particularly interested in candidates who integrate field observations with remote sensing, textural, geochemical, experimental and/or theoretical modeling approaches. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a laboratory in their area of specialization. They will also have access to existing stable isotope, FTIR spectroscopy, and experimental petrology labs as well as the microanalytical facilities in the University’s Center for Advanced Materials Characterization (SEM, EPMA, EBSD, TEM, FIB, TOF-SIMS; http://camcor.uoregon.edu/) and the University’s high-performance computing facility (http://aciss-computing.uoregon.edu/). 6) Assistant Professor in Sedimentary Geology – Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Dept. of Geoscience

The Position: The Department of Geoscience at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of sedimentary geology beginning August 2015. This position in the Geoscience Department is part of an expansion of a campus-wide interdisciplinary research cluster in Energy Sustainability that is focused on multiple aspects of natural resource development and extraction.

Qualifications: We seek an individual with a strong background in sedimentary geology, with preference given to those with specific research interests that allow undergraduate student participation. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview(s), which will include a teaching demonstration. Possible research interests could include any aspect of stratigraphy, depositional modeling, or basin analysis. Candidates whose research relates to energy resources will be given preference. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding skills and enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate students and the ability to develop a strong research program involving undergraduates. The department is interested in candidates who understand the barriers facing women and people of color in higher education and science.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach 12 contact hours each semester. Teaching responsibilities will include a course on sedimentation & stratigraphy and additional courses defined by the candidate’s specialty. In addition, the candidate must have a strong interest in and commitment to teaching introductory courses in Geoscience to both majors and non-majors. She/he will also be expected to advise undergraduate research projects and develop a joint faculty-student research program. The successful candidate may be assigned to perform work at off-campus sites and/or provide instruction through distance education.

7) Postdoctoral Research Associate Program – Brown University, Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Brown University invites applications for its postdoctoral research associate program. The department seeks outstanding candidates in the field of Earth and planetary sciences, with preference given to applicants whose research addresses key questions regarding Earth structure, composition, dynamics, deformation and material properties. Postdoctoral associates are encouraged to pursue their own research interests, but close interaction with Brown Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences faculty is expected.
